Feud, marriage and misunderstanding

Sirusu and his brother Perusu are rich bachelors. They own a village cinema theatre, orchards and farms, and their family receives the first respect in the region. Their family has feuded for years with their relative Parameswaran Gounder's family.

The conflict has a history. Sirusu's father was killed by Parameswaran's brother, who was sentenced to death. Sirusu's sister Saratha secretly married a relative of Parameswaran. She arrives from Mumbai with her husband Sabapathy and their daughter Indhu.

Sirusu falls in love with Indhu at first sight. Parameswaran and his son Ratnam Gounder propose that Ratnam marry Indhu. Sabapathy presses his daughter to agree, but she refuses and decides to leave the village. Sirusu stops her. Indhu says she does not want Ratnam and is not in love with Sirusu. Villagers misunderstand their meeting, while Indhu tells Ratnam they were only talking.

Sirusu lies in order to marry Indhu, and the marriage takes place. Indhu refuses to live with him as his wife. When she becomes ill, Sirusu cares for her. His mother says a god's statue must be placed in the village temple to save Indhu.
