A 2003 Hindi romantic thriller

Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne is a 2003 Indian Hindi-language romantic thriller directed by Sangeeth Sivan. Released on 21 March 2003, it adapts the 1963 American film Charade. Zayed Khan appears in his debut alongside Esha Deol as the film combines romance, a bank-heist investigation, false identities and a search for missing gold.

Khan plays Prakash Yogi, Vijay Chouhan and Vishal Malhotra, while Deol plays Tina Khanna. The supporting cast includes Gulshan Grover as Om, Vijay Raaz as Chingar, Rakhi Sawant as Sheena, Salil Ankola as Deepak Chopra/Mahesh Yogi, Parth Dave as Coco and Sham Kaushal as Tony. Khan won the Zee Cine Award for Best Male Debut for the film.

Tina Khanna and the missing gold

Tina Khanna learns that Tony, the uncle she fondly called Tony, has died. Her troubles deepen when the CBI and other investigative agencies question her. Tony had been a conman and master thief wanted in connection with a bank heist in which the RBI lost gold worth Rs. 10 crore to him and his cronies. Tina insists that she knows nothing about the theft, but the investigators remain unconvinced.

Deepak Chopra, an officer at the Embassy of India in Bangkok, contacts her with further details. He says that Om, Chingar and Sheena are also suspected in the heist. The three have met Tina and warned her. According to Deepak, Tony cheated them and hid the money somewhere secret. Because Tina is his only living relative, they suspect that she knows the location. She again denies knowing where it is, and Deepak tells her to contact him if she finds a clue.

Tina soon realises that Om, Chingar and Sheena are stalking her. At this point she encounters Vijay, whom she had met in Goa. He says he had been looking for her after she suddenly disappeared. Since he had been pursuing her since their first meeting, she accepts his explanation and tells him what has been happening. Vijay escorts her safely to her room, then meets the trio, suggesting that he is connected to them.

In front of Tina, Vijay appears to get on good terms with Om, Chingar and Sheena. Behind her back, he seeks evidence. Chingar and Sheena are soon killed, and the evidence Tina sees points to Vijay. When she confronts him, he says he is not Vijay at all, but Mahesh Yogi, and claims to have infiltrated the gang for his own purpose. Tina has begun to love him and chooses to give him a chance.

Deepak then tells Tina that the gang had another member named Mahesh Yogi, who was shot during a crossfire between the gang and police. The gang shot him instead of helping him, and his bullet-ridden body was recovered from the sea. His wallet identified the other gang members. Vijay responds that he is Prakash Yogi, Mahesh's younger brother, and that he entered the gang under a false name to seek revenge. Deepak says Mahesh had no kin, leaving Tina unable to trust anyone except him.

Om escapes from the hotel and warns both Tina and Vijay because he believes one of them is the killer. Tina and Vijay enter an antique shop, where she notices coins for sale. One resembles a coin among Tony's possessions. When she produces Tony's photograph, a shopkeeper remembers selling him a coin for Rs. 10 crore. Tina returns to her hotel to retrieve the coin.

A mixed response from IndiaFM

Taran Adarsh of IndiaFM gave Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne 2 out of 5. He described it as “a thriller with several engrossing moments,” but wrote that what could have been “an ideal popcorn flick” fell “prey to mediocrity” because of its hackneyed screenplay.
