A town ruled by traitors

Desa Drohulu, translated as Traitors, is a 1964 Indian Telugu-language action drama. Bolla Subba Rao produced and directed the film for Sri Rama Pictures. It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Devika and Kanta Rao. S. Rajeswara Rao composed the music.

Ramu and Leela's troubled relationship

Five men, Bhujanga Rao, Abbadhaiah, Karunakaran, Devaiah Shetty and Sanyasi Rao, present themselves as social workers in a town. They kill their partner Kesava Rao through the gangster Joginder, who turns them into his puppets.

Ramu loves Leela, Bhujanga Rao’s daughter. Bhujanga Rao opposes the relationship because Ramu is destitute, but agrees under Leela’s pressure. When Devaiah Shetty refuses Ramu a debt for expenses, a theft occurs and Ramu is blamed and sentenced. Bhujanga Rao then pressures Leela to marry the wealthy Raghu.

A city, a drama company and old ties

Freed of guilt, Ramu discovers the situation around him after his house is auctioned by Devaiah Shetty because of a loan. Dispirited, he goes to the city and meets the dance master Gopi, who gives him shelter. Ramu first joins Karunakaran and Sanyasi Rao, then leaves when he recognizes their tyranny. Through Gopi, he joins a drama company and meets the altruist Karuna.

Raghu and Leela have a baby boy. Joginder ensnares Raghu and accustoms him to vices. When Joginder’s men attack Raghu, Ramu protects him. At Raghu’s home, Ramu sees Leela and she faints. Ramu approaches her as a sibling, but Raghu misunderstands their connection. Ramu writes letters to Leela, and Raghu later discovers their relationship.
